Distributed LAN Gaming Architecture

Distributed LAN Gaming Architecture, aka, DLAN'GA', is the technology that has been implemented on Gaming Competition Arenas on a Windows 2003 based Server Client System.

DLANGA includes a minimum of 5-25 Client systems that are interlinked together by high speed 10/100BaseTX or RX connectivity cables (what we know by 100MBps). The systems are seperated into sites as 1/5 and are distributed in various locations, say, seperated by 10-15 metres or kilometres, to effectively implement the thrill of real time gaming. The competants do not see each other except if were a team.

The first step in applying DLANGA is to create a Win2003 based server and to promote it to a domain controler (DC) by running dcpromo from RUN. This automatically sets up a DNS/BIND system to be used. Some domain name like game.arena is used which can be later called as http://game.arena or user@game.arena

The client computers are first joined to the domain by going to system properties, after ensuring proper network connectivity and TCP/IP configuration using reliable and efficient sub/supernetting as required. Then by going to mmc from RUN and opting for Active Directory Sites and Services, the domain is reclassified as Sites and then distributed and assorted in DNS. Finally required user accounts with sufficient privileges are created through Dsa.msc (Active Directory Users and Computers) snap in.

Now, lets start gaming. Create a Routing and Remote access server and configure it to implement static or dynamic routing (OSPF or RIP1/2). Also set up a Terminal Server to support central troubleshooting through RD/RA. Create a VPN connection with L2TP protocol to the server in which the game is run (may or maynot be DC, preferably not) to ensure prompt and secure connectivity.

Why DLANGA?
It provides you with central authentication, monitoring using Network Monitor/SMS (System Management Server, not our SMS) and mainly dedicated relaible and reduntant connectivity and troubleshooting. Also enables effective implementation and deployment of Game sub tools or packages using the site/domain policy.
