Super Cavitation - The New Generation Speed Research

I just happened to watch a telecast on Discovery India on a topic called Speed with modern research and one of the ideas that predicted much result was Super Cavitation.

Supercavitation is the use of cavitation effects to create a large bubble of gas inside a liquid, allowing an object to travel at great speed through the liquid by being wholly enveloped by the bubble. The cavity (i.e., the bubble) reduces the drag on the object and precisely this makes supercavitation an attractive technology: drag is normally about 1,000 times greater in water than in air.

The potential of this technology being relatively frictionless linear as well as radial motion in an environment of much high density and hence much high drag.

Distributed LAN Gaming Architecture

Distributed LAN Gaming Architecture, aka, DLAN'GA', is the technology that has been implemented on Gaming Competition Arenas on a Windows 2003 based Server Client System.

DLANGA includes a minimum of 5-25 Client systems that are interlinked together by high speed 10/100BaseTX or RX connectivity cables (what we know by 100MBps). The systems are seperated into sites as 1/5 and are distributed in various locations, say, seperated by 10-15 metres or kilometres, to effectively implement the thrill of real time gaming. The competants do not see each other except if were a team.

The first step in applying DLANGA is to create a Win2003 based server and to promote it to a domain controler (DC) by running dcpromo from RUN. This automatically sets up a DNS/BIND system to be used. Some domain name like game.arena is used which can be later called as http://game.arena or user@game.arena

The client computers are first joined to the domain by going to system properties, after ensuring proper network connectivity and TCP/IP configuration using reliable and efficient sub/supernetting as required. Then by going to mmc from RUN and opting for Active Directory Sites and Services, the domain is reclassified as Sites and then distributed and assorted in DNS. Finally required user accounts with sufficient privileges are created through Dsa.msc (Active Directory Users and Computers) snap in.

Now, lets start gaming. Create a Routing and Remote access server and configure it to implement static or dynamic routing (OSPF or RIP1/2). Also set up a Terminal Server to support central troubleshooting through RD/RA. Create a VPN connection with L2TP protocol to the server in which the game is run (may or maynot be DC, preferably not) to ensure prompt and secure connectivity.

Why DLANGA?
It provides you with central authentication, monitoring using Network Monitor/SMS (System Management Server, not our SMS) and mainly dedicated relaible and reduntant connectivity and troubleshooting. Also enables effective implementation and deployment of Game sub tools or packages using the site/domain policy.

Try it yourself and feel the difference!!!

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1

[img_assist|fid=49|thumb=1|alt=Windows PIC] All and more about the much anticipated IE7 which would compete against Firefox 1.5 in future.

The beta 1 release of Internet Explorer 7 includes a subset of all the new features that will be delivered in the final version of Internet Explorer 7. This release is intended to enable developers to begin to test the new browser for compatibility with their applications and Web sites. Therefore, many of the important changes in beta 1 are at a “plumbing level” of Internet Explorer and therefore will not be as evident to end users.

Internet Explorer 7 beta 1 features focus on the core security architecture changes that offer dynamic protection against data theft, fraudulent Web sites, and malicious and hidden software, as well as improvements to the platform for Web developers. Architectural enhancements have been made to Internet Explorer 7 to make it less of a target for hackers and other malicious people, which will help users browse with better peace of mind. The release of Windows XP Service Pack 2 — also focused on security — underscored the challenge of striking the right balance between security and compatibility: As security is tightened, compatibility and extensibility tend to suffer. With Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft is working hard to ensure this balance is met effectively to ensure the best possible browsing experience for end users.

In addition, this release offers an early glimpse of how Microsoft Corp. is redesigning Internet Explorer to make everyday tasks easier and providing new tools to give browser users direct access to exactly the information they want. This includes built-in support for Web feeds that employ Really Simple Syndication (RSS), an XML-based format for gathering and distributing content from Web sources such as newspapers, magazines and blogs. Also, the Internet Explorer 7 user interface will continue to undergo significant changes until the final version is released.

Google Secret Lab, Prelude

Here goes Google's secret test lab on europe. Google uses live human testers to go through their search algorithms and pays them in solid gold.

It's one of the best kept secrets of Google. It's a mystery on Webmasterworld. Also in Europe (France) they don't know what to expect from that odd URL eval.google.com. Click it and you get ...nothing. The site reveals itself only if you have the proper login and if you use a network known by Google. Residues of Eval.google are found on the web, but the full content of the mystery site has never been published before. Here it is: the real story about Eval.Google. They use... humans! Welcome to the first entry in Search Bistro.

Why does Google need a hidden test lab when it is so open to all?

What is it? It's a lab of humans from all over the world (from China to The Netherlands, from Korea to Brasil) They are paid to check search results of Google every day. Most of the employees, called international agents by Google, were recruited through universities all over the world. The aim is to avoid spam, to get the right sites at the top of the listing and to test new features, not shown to the public yet. I call it Google's Secret Evaluation Lab, but the real title is less adventurous; 'Rater Hub Google'. The coming days I will reveal all I know about this lab - must find the time first to do so. To keep you busy, here's a Flash-movie from a part of the site. Stay tuned, next posting will be tomorrow.

Linux Lovers? Keep a lookout for Windows.....

Windows is a most powerful OS, but many users of Windows are quite noobs or in good words, simple amateurs. That is why Windows is still getting a backout when comparing the power of Linux. Windows can do all that Linux can do....I swear since I use Windows after learning to use it. I am an MCP, and so I can guarantee reliability.

Coming to basics,

1. Users and Accounts :

Windows has the most advantageous User management in any OS. Currently Win Users can be broadly classified into 3. Mainly, Administrators, Limited Users and Inbuilt Users. Basically Inbuilt users are taken into account as those created during the installation, namely Administrator and Guest. Guest is a disabled User. I hereby am going to approach the functions in methods A and B where A is the usual noob approach and B is a pro one.

Method A: Usually people goto Control Panel>User Accounts for creating, deleting and modifying users which has the least level of functionality

Method B: Goto Run>lusrmgr.msc>Local Users and Groups>Users; Now you have the facility to create, modify and delete users. The advanced features are shown in the figure and explained below.

User must change password at next logon: Prompts user to change their password at their next logon. Usually needed by accounts that are created by admins and then handed over to local users

User cannot change password: Disables the feature of changing password by associated user

Password Never Expires: There is a standard password expiry time (42 days) for accounts created in this method. This is a security measure but is disabled by this option

Account is disabled: Creates an account but disables it

Other advantageous features:

Goto Run>gpedit.msc>Computer Configuration>Windows settings>Security settings>Account policies>Password policy

You will see 6 options as listed below.

1. Enforce password history: remembers 'n' no. of passwords per user that the user has used. The user cannot change back to the passwords in the history list. which means if the option is set to 1 and the password now using is "test", I can change it to "test1" but then after I cannot change it to "test" until I change it to something else.

2. Maximum password age: The password is used for 42 days default which can be changed after which the user is prompted to change password in accordance with the first option.

3. Minimum password age: No of days after which the user can change the password again after a recent change. 1 means I cannot change the password more than once a day.

4. Minimum password length: Length of charecters in a password as a security measure.

5. Password must meet complexity requirements: Passwords must be complex enough for a user to use them. An example is 123!@#iii

6. Store Passwords for reverse encryption for all users in the domain: If enabled, passwords are reversed and then encrypted as a secuity measure.

Goto Run>gpedit.msc>Computer Configuration>Windows settings>Security settings>Account policies>Account Lockout Policy

You will see 3 options as listed below.

1. Account lockout duration: When an unknown user tries to break into your account with combinations of password, after a distinct number of tries, the account gets locked automatically to this time duration. Only an administrator can unlock the account in this time period.

2. Account lockout threshold: Defined the number of false attempts before an account is locked.

3. Reset account lockout counter after: After this period of time, the number of false attempt counter is reset to zero.

I will be adding more Windows usage methods soon. Thanks for reading

Wireless Fidelity / Wi-Fi to evolve

Wireless Fidelity popularly known as Wi-Fi networks is expected to evolve at a much steady and competant rate to have its hold against the new generation T3 intra satellite architecture or also known as T3ISA. T3ISA which is a new come project would allow data and voice transfer upto the speed of 2 MBps through satellite intra communication which provides great speed and reliability

Since Wi-Fi, being most popularly used as an open communication method available only at a range of 40-50 m from the transmitors called the hotspots are expected to be evolved at a radical rate to cope with T3ISA since one of the major disadvantages of Wi-Fi were availability. Wi-Fi providers are going to manipulate the current FDDI data linking facility between continents to provide a sophisticated data projection system. FDDI uses the method of Optical Data Transmission by Total Internal Reflection. By the projection method, multiple copies of same data are transferred through different channels to find the fastest path for each data and hence to transfer it. The actual data is NOT Fragmented as in the case of frame transfers

Expecting more to come of this initiative of Wi-Fi Providers.
